The concert night and subsequent panel at the Biennale Musica presents three former fellows of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program, who share an interest in electronic/electro-acoustic, non-narrative music. Focused on sound they intend to expand listening experiences while exploring new sound material and territories. It will be discussed how their different backgrounds influence their understanding of sound. How do they relate to each other, and how to the Festival’s theme? Which strategies do they use in their compositions to create structure and meaning without narrative? What does relation to/autonomy of sound mean to their practice? (How) do they work with references in their music? Is it possible to create sound without external references? What does external and internal mean in this context? What is the difference between reference and relation? Can there be non-relational sound?
