Synopsis
Maria is a young, hotheaded but insecure tango dancer. She recently started an affair with Anton, the leader of her dance-company. During a rehearsal Maria loses her temper after getting ridiculed by her peers. An old man offers help, but actually ends up trapping her in a mirror world where she is haunted by her fears and nightmares. Only when Maria realises how unique and faceted she really is, she is able to escape.
Director’s Statement
I want the audience not just to observe but to feel. Physical action on the screen is physical action for the audience. In Ballavita I purposely chose an unusual genre for VR.
A woman who only in the end understands who she really is. That is the only way to save herself. But from what? From herself? From the old man who seems to be a dream-thief? Or is it all a dream?
VR enables me to show the psychic state of a character through physical action. Motions and emotions start converging.
