Synopsis

Joseph, one of the last goatherds on the Corsican coastline, receives a visit from the mafia. They lust after his land. Despite the pressure, he says no, he won’t move. After unwittingly killing the man sent to intimidate him, he becomes the victim of a merciless manhunt that takes place from the southern to the northern reaches of Corsica, in the middle of summer. As the days go by, the legend of Joseph spreads across the entire island thanks to his niece Vannina, embodying a resistance previously deemed impossible.

Director’s Statement

Joseph is hunted because he says no. No to speculation, no to concreting coastland, no to the Mafia. He doesn’t act out of bravery, or to make a political stand. He acts on a survival instinct— to buy his territory and identity a little more time. He is the last of the Mohicans. In a world dominated by economic interests, his fate is predictable: he is destined to vanish and be quickly forgotten. Unless, of course, his resistance transforms him into a legend.
