Mr. Gaga
Description
Mr. Gaga portrays Ohad Naharin (1952), born and raised in a kibbutz and now one of the most renowned Israeli choreographers in the world, through repertory images, excerpts of dance on the stage and moments of rehearsal with his dancers. The film shows the artist’s universe in his concretely practical attitude and in his aesthetic and poetic inspiration. The creator of a language of movement commonly known as “Gaga”, conceived and enacted to create emotional and energetic dance, Naharin is shown starting with his first dance steps, and onward through his career on international stages with Martha Graham and Maurice Béjart, ending with his work as a choreographer, crowned by his appointment to the position of artistic director of the Batsheva Dance Company in Tel Aviv, founded by Baroness Batsheva de Rothschild in 1964, and shaped since its very origins by leading pioneering figures of modern dance, such as Graham and Anna Sokolow.
