Luca Francesconi, former Artistic Director of the Music Department of La Biennale di Venezia, gets back to the Festival both as composer and as tutor at the Biennale College Musica. His new work for amplified orchestra Sospeso, commissioned by the Biennale Musica, offers the opportunity to explore the latest developments in Francesconi’s artistic work, which has always had at its heart a reflection on the relationship between music and technology, between artist and society, between poetic invention and instrumental gesture. The role of tutor, on the other hand, is becoming increasingly important for Francesconi in his artistic and social commitment, because passing on experience, as the composer says, “is the main, and perhaps the only thing we can do as composers that has a concrete political impact”.
