The CTM Festival has always been a springboard for the further development of Berlin artists’ practice. In 2024, a series of Berlin-based artists will be given the opportunity, within the framework of the Berlin Current Immersive Audio Lab, to study the current state of the art in spatial sound. Manufacturers of sound reinforcement systems such as 4DSOUND, d&b, L-Acoustics and Meyer sound have recently started to offer modular off-the-shelf systems for a variety of concert or presentation formats, which can be used to realise more natural and innovative sound experiences. The sound of an electronically amplified instrument can then be heard exactly from the position of the performer and no longer from the position of the loudspeakers and always comes from the right direction for every person in the audience. This allows a precise and subtle interweaving of acoustic instruments with synthesised sounds. The dynamic movement of virtual sound sources in the room is also possible.
Such systems multiply the creative possibilities and will increasingly become the international standard in concert halls, theatres and clubs in the coming years.
