Biennale Danza 2022: call for a new choreography reserved for Italian artists

The call is aimed at the development of an original new choreography to be submitted by Italian choreographers and companies.

Call for a new choreographic work

The first call for a new choreographic work, reserved for Italian artists, is now open. La Biennale di Venezia, with the Dance Department directed by Wayne McGregor, launches a programme this year that allocates resources for the development of an original new choreography to be submitted by Italian choreographers and companies. The winning project will premiere in its final form at the 16th International Festival of Contemporary Dance in 2022.

The first call is now online, starting today June 24th and through July 29th, on the website of La Biennale di Venezia at https://www.labiennale.org/it/danza/2021.

With total freedom as to form – from solo piece to composition for ensemble – and no age limits, the projects submitted on or before July 29th, which respond to the requirements of the call, will be reviewed for selection by the artistic Director of the Dance Department, Wayne McGregor.

The winner will receive a production grant of up to a maximum of 25,000 Euro, which they may use autonomously or in collaboration with other production partners to produce the choreographic project. In addition to the production grant, La Biennale di Venezia will cover all the costs for staging the debut of the performance in Venice – from the artists’ fees to travel and lodging expenses and production specifications.
