Dagur Eggertsson; Vibeke Jensen; Sami Rintala
The building is designed by Rintala Eggertsson specifically for the use of the inhabitants of Mestre as well as for the visitors to Biennale Architettura. The building is optimistic, joyful, built by the architects and their assistants. Located at the edge of the water, a building made of wood creates a courtyard surrounded by a covered walkway, a stage, a bar, places to sit in the shade. It can be used by small groups to gather, to perform, to dance, to socialise.
Of their approach they say “we want to offer something extra, to reveal something extra so that it becomes architecture. We want to offer people atmospheres, feelings, experiences that are meaningful and necessary, to create surroundings for a good life”.
When the invitation came to make an intervention in Forte Marghera, we immediately thought of Rintala Eggertsson, because of their generous, open approach to making architecture, because of their unique ability to design and build beautiful buildings and bridges, and because of their natural ability to engage with people and with the specifics of each place.
In the Corderie you will get a sense of the thought process and work behind this building – we encourage you to visit Mestre and visit this unique building at Forte Marghera and experience Rintala Eggertsson’s freespace for dance and convivial life.
