Open to a “more up-to-date interpretation of the concept of contemporary” and dedicated to the musical influences between Europe and the Americas, the 62nd International Festival of Contemporary Music, titled Crossing the Atlantic, took place in Venice from September 28th to October 7th, 2018. The Yellow Shark by Frank Zappa performed by the Parco della Musica Contemporanea Ensemble, the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement to Keith Jarrett, María de Buenos Aires by Astor Piazzolla conducted by the Argentinean Marcelo Nisinman, Aliados by the Silver Lion Sebastian Rivas are just some examples of how every type of music can be enriched by the experience of another, can absorb its lesson and return it in new form.

The Official Catalogue
The catalogue of the Biennale Musica 2018 deepens the concerts on the bill with critical pieces, lyrics of the vocal compositions, biographies of the composers and performers of the Festival. A focus on the double bass enriches the volume, tracing a brief history of the instrument and introducing Florentin Ginot, Charlotte Testu and Dario Calderone, musicians who stand out in the contemporary music scene thanks to their experimentations and interpretations of the potentialities of the solo double bass.
