Description
The exhibition explores possible futures of Bor, a mining town in eastern Serbia. The fate of the town since its emergence at the beginning of the twentieth century has been subordinated to the changeable courses of its basic economy. In everyday language, the residents of Bor classify the spaces of the town through the existing seven kilometres, counting from the open pit mine Bor as a starting point – ‘zero kilometre’ or ‘the end of the world’. In this sense, ‘eight kilometres’ represents a qualitatively new layer of the town, suggesting directions of its further development beyond the mining industry. The exhibition recognises the capacity of architects to provoke a debate about the present and the future of Bor, and possibly other similar towns.
