Description
The digital is material. In 2016, IBM announced that 90% of the world’s data had been produced in the prior two years. This recent and rapid exponential growth in the global data now reveals itself locally across the Irish landscapes as a vast constellation of data centres, fibre optic cable networks, and energy infrastructures. Foregrounding the materiality of our digital age, the Irish pavilion presents a structure that performs a collapse of the local and planetary scale data infrastructure networks into the most primitive of socialising technologies – the bonfire – to draw attention to and reframe how we comprehend the data infrastructure already around us.

Image 1 – How will we live together?
The Irish Pavilion — Entanglement — is part pagan festival, part data infrastructure, part signal; it connects bodies, thermal flow, matter, and space, to upturn the utopian fantasy that is the Cloud.
Image 2 – Sneak peek of the project
The Pavilion uses artefacts of data infrastructure to produce a spatial experience from the material objects that usually only mediate digital worlds.
