OFFICIAL WEBSITE

Description

StoneStatement Editions sees stones and rocks as components of Earth’s life, belonging to an overall living system despite the fact that they may seem lifeless and extractable. The work takes the form of an editorial concept that acts like a geomediator and consists of the announcement of five book titles. These are all imagined, wished for, and suggested volumes, carrying relevant questions about humans’ relationships to stones to be further elaborated and debated. The announcements are photographs of book covers and posters and manifests. This project proposes giving new meaning to stones and rocks, whether gravel or mountains, thereby transforming humans’ view of them as lifeless objects of extraction without agency. The not so fictive StoneStatements Editions aims to solicit a debate, encouraging ideas which problematize our relationship as humans to stones and minerals at large, and allow these problematic relationships to emerge to the public and become visible.

Biennale Sneak Peek

This project was constructed collaboratively with designers, artists, architects, conservators, who have contributed in constructing this editorial project entitled StoneStatements editions. Idealized as a platform from where artist Mabe Bethônico gathers multiple voices, the aim is to construct a critical territory from where to address “stones, rocks, pebbles and mountains”, beyond economic implications and beyond the description of their chemical compounds. The announced titles are manifests to be written allowing relations to mineralogical elements, by questioning extraction and reconsidering connections, vocabulary and value.
