"With 1999, and with Harald Szeemann," states President Baratta, "La Biennale takes on the responsibility of the international exhibition, no longer only articulated in sections. With him we have opened the new cycle we still live. "

"In 1998, the appointment of Harald Szeemann as curator of the exhibition to be held the following year - explains Baratta - coincided with a fundamental choice made by La Biennale for its Art Exhibition. It was the choice of structuring it permanently and definitively in an international exhibition entrusted to its curator, alongside La Biennale formed by the pavilions of the participating countries. It was the translation into a definitive and strategic choice of solutions adopted on some occasions in previous years in particularly happy moments of the life of the exhibition: in particular the one in which the exhibition, still articulated in sections, had introduced among them an APERTO section in which  welcome the novelties of the world and younger generations.

1999 is an integral reproduction of the dAPERTutto exhibition curated by Szeemann. It was made with ASAC materials, traced back through original documents and screens at Ca' Giustinian, but also virtually "set up" online, on the site of the Biennale as well as at  www.google.com/culturalinstitute/collection/la-biennale-di-venezia 

This project was born thanks to the support of the Google Cultural Institute and to the dialogue with Amit Sood, director of the Google Cultural Institute, the technological platform developed by Google to promote and preserve online culture. This is an initiative that will now be possible for La Biennale Arte 2015 and for the forthcoming Exhibitions.

"The technology and archival wisdom allow us today to reproduce through the images, and in their entirety, even if into fragments  the exhibitions of the past," explains President Baratta. "This exercise seems to us precious, as study and documentation activity. For many contemporary artworks, the space that welcomes them seems to be almost complementary, and revisiting an exhibition represents further enrichment in the memory and knowledge of it. And La Biennale Foundation, not only having a white-walled building but also historic arsenal-style buildings with a particular appeal, offers the curators of the international exhibition a double instrument, enriching the possibilities for exhibition projects ".

1999 consolidates the program of temporary exhibitions with ASAC documents. Also on this occasion fragments of the history of La Biennale di Venezia are brought to light.
