B 74-78
The Historical Archive of Contemporary Arts of La Biennale di Venezia has recently included the Lorenzo Capellini photographic collection; the great photographer documented over 60 years the artistic and literary events of the 20th century and in particular the Biennale from 1974 to 1978.
On 30 March 2023 at Ca’ Giustinian, Venice, the exhibition B74-78. Lorenzo Capellini. Un racconto fotografico was inaugurated. Two days of conference and discussion were scheduled at the Asac Library at Giardini on 30 and 31 March to go back over the Biennale’s artistic activities under the four-year presidency of Carlo Ripa di Meana (1974-1978).
“We must be grateful to President Carlo Ripa di Meana for asking his friend Lorenzo Capellini to document the years of his Biennale” – President Roberto Cicutto has commented – “and we should furthermore be grateful to Lorenzo for having continued to do so, thereby building a unique heritage of truth that enriches our Archive. We were committed to organising this exhibition because it is about the passion of a special witness, who used his camera to merge History with a capital H with the lives of men and women who, each in their own capacity, contributed to making that history”.
