Synopsis
In Marseille, a family gathers for the birth of baby Gloria. But despite the joy, the young parents have fallen on tough times. As they try to make ends meet, they reconnect with Gloria’s ex-convict grandfather.
Director’s Statement
To paraphrase Marx, wherever neo-capitalism reigns, it has crushed fraternal, friendly and supportive relations and left no other link between people than cold interest and hard cash. It has drowned all our dreams in the icy waters of selfish calculation. That is what this dark social tale aims to show through the story of a reconstituted family as fragile as a house of cards. I have always thought that cinema should move us, sometimes by presenting us with an example of the world as it could be, at others by showing us the world as it is. In short, we need both comedies and tragedies to continue to question our lifestyles... And we must continue to question ourselves more than ever in these troubled times so that we do not succumb to the illusion that there is something natural about the societies we live in.
