Biennale Cinema 2019

Official selection of the 76th Venice International Film Festival: films in the Venezia 76 competition, Out of Competition, Orizzonti, Venice Classics, Sconfini, Biennale College Cinema, and Venice Virtual Reality.

The restored version of Tsai Ming-liang’s Bu san (Goodbye Dragon Inn) will screen on 3 September at 11 am and 3 pm at Teatro alle Tese, Arsenale. At 12:30 and 16:30 pm, live performance by Tsai Ming-liang.

Works made in Virtual Reality (Competition, Biennale College Cinema - VR, Best of VR – Out of Competition) are to be presented, as part of the 76th Venice International Film Festival, in the Lazzaretto Vecchio island.

An advanced training workshop, launched for the first time at the 2012 Venice Film Festival, is open to young filmmakers from all over the world for the production of low-budget films.

Following a recommendation from the Director of the Festival, the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement to a director was awarded to Pedro Almodóvar for the contribution made through his body of work to the advancement of the art of cinema.

The second Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement was awarded to the great English actress Julie Andrews, the star of classic movies beloved all the world over, such as Mary Poppins (1964), The Sound of Music (1965), and Victor Victoria (1982), among many others.
