Buenos Aires, 1980s. Soon after Julio Levy returns from political exile to take a seat in the family empire, his older brother is kidnapped. Tasked with the rescue efforts, Julio must carry the whole family on his shoulders as he unveils the forces still at play behind Argentina’s reinstated democracy.

How was the transition from a dictatorship to democracy in Argentina? Can a country return to democracy immediately? Are the intelligence services and the mechanisms of control ever truly dismantled? With these questions as a backdrop, the film portrays that historical period through the story of a family, where the notion of legacy is put into tension between the different generations. The film focuses on a man who returns from exile with his family in order to reclaim the life he left behind, his relationships, and his political views. These expectations are shattered when his brother is kidnapped and he starts being extorted by an anonymous group with political and military ties. The search turns into a bureaucratic maze filled with traps and lies that ultimately lead to tragedy. I am interested in exploring the fragility of a young Argentine democracy: the hope for a new project of a nation in which the dark past was still operating from the shadows.
