L’ordine del tempo

And if we were to discover that the world could come to an end in the space of a few hours? This is what happens one evening to a group of old friends meeting up, as they do every year, at a villa by the seaside to celebrate a birthday. From that moment, the time that separates them from the possible end of the world will seem to flow differently, rapidly and eternally, during a summer night that is going to change their lives.

The screenwriter Paolo Costella and I had read Carlo Rovelli’s The Order of Time and we thought it a good idea to share our discovery of that fascinating and somewhat disquieting piece of writing through a film.
Life is a sort of “journey” that we HUMANS make in the Universe according to a program that we have not chosen but that unfolds, just as everything unfolds, in “the order of time.” For this adventure I’ve had very good actors capable of expressing, with great authenticity, the range of emotions that the story requires.
Each of them has found the right measure with which to express fear, nostalgia, wonder, uncertainty, hope. But is life really a journey in the order of time? It is surely a journey... and a disquieting one.
