A multi-sensory work, NIDRA is “a new musical tour de force for electric guitar featuring video” (“The New York Times”), with pieces that reconnect highbrow music to the subversive energy of rock, such as Trash TV Trance by Fausto Romitelli or Vampyr! by Tristan Murail.
NIDRA is a journey into a progressive discovery of the nature of the human being, between thoughts and dreams, nightmares and fears; starting with an external impulse, sudden and unknown, it spreads like something of a hi-tech recherche. In a constant alternation between conscious and unconscious, internal and external, dream and reality, man reaches self-awareness and is ready to experience the world that surrounds him through the filters of his own subjectivity. What he finds before him is chaotic, artificial, degraded. Is this reality? Or is it only the fruit of his imagination?
After the prologue, featuring the world premiere of Loo(p)cy by Luigi Manfrin, the show includes Electric Counterpoint by Steve Reich, Vampyr! by Tristan Murail, Trash TV Trance by Fausto Romitelli, Another Possibility by Christian Wolff and an original transcription of Dream by John Cage. Giacomo Baldelli’s concept has been further developed by OOOPStudio in a series of short films inspired by the music in the performance.
