The selection has been made for the 3 projects that will move on to the production phase of the films of the 2nd edition (2017-2018) of the Biennale College Cinema - Virtual Reality, which will be presented at the 75th Venice International Film Festival 2018 in the Venice Virtual Reality section, launched to great acclaim in 2017.
The 3 final projects selected for the Biennale College Cinema - Virtual Reality
The three projects 4 Feet, VRtigo and In the Cave move on to the production phase and will premiere at the 75th Venice Film Festival.
The selected projects
The 3 projects, selected following the first workshop with the 9 projects selected from around the world (this year from Argentina, Brazil, China, France, India, Italy, Russia), are the following:
- • 4 Feet (Argentina) - Damian Turkieh, Maria Belen Poncio, Gonzalo Sierra (directors) | Ezequiel Lenardon (producer)
The journey of Dizzy, an 18 year-old girl bound to a wheelchair, to experience her sexuality.
- • VRtigo (France) - Marc Guidoni (director) | Joanna Szybist (producer)
"VRtigo" is a live-action drama 25' long. A lost soul wanders, trapped in the elevator of a luxury hotel, trying desperately to find a way to free itself.
- • In the Cave (Italy) - Ivan Gergolet (director) | Antonio Giacomin (producer)
In a cave full of beauty and mystery, nothing is what it seems. Exploring its wonders and looking for a way out of the dark, the viewer will be at the centre of an allegorical journey in search of life and rebirth.
The next steps
The 3 teams that authored the selected projects will participate through Saturday March 24th in a second workshop held in Venice and focused on the aspects of production. At the end of this training session, the projects will begin the realization phase leading up to their presentation at the 75th Venice International Film Festival. The three projects, lasting up to 30 minutes each, will receive a production grant up to a maximum of € 60,000 each thanks to the support of SONY.
Biennale College Cinema
The Biennale College is an innovative and complex experience that engages all the Departments of the Biennale di Venezia to promote new talents in cinema by offering them the opportunity to work side by side with the masters to make micro-budget films.
Biennale College – Cinema Virtual Reality is a recent project developed by the Biennale di Venezia with the aim of exploring the most innovative and exciting technology of the moment: Virtual Reality.
Biennale College – Cinema, organized by the Biennale di Venezia, enjoys the support of the Ministry for the Cultural Heritage and Activities – General Direction Cinema. Biennale College – Cinema enjoys the academic collaboration of IFP in New York, the TorinoFilmLab, and the Busan International Film Festival. The Director is Alberto Barbera, Head of Programme Savina Neirotti.
For the 2017/2018 edition, the Biennale College – Cinema and Biennale College – Cinema Virtual Reality projects have received generous funding from the MEDIA - Creative Europe Programme of the European Commission – General Direction Connect. The educational activities of the 2017 – 2018 edition will enjoy the support of the MEDIA funding. This funding is in addition to the support received from the MEDIA Programme for the development of the Venice Production Bridge.
