Presentation of the Exhibitions, Festivals and Special Projects for 2025, with a special preview of the Biennale Musica 2025 (in Berlin) and of the Biennale Danza 2025 (in London).
Presentation of the general themes in 2025
La Biennale di Venezia announces two presentations of the general themes for 2025 – Exhibitions, Festivals and Special Projects – in two European capitals: in Berlin, on Thursday 13 February at the Italian Embassy in Germany (at 12 noon) and in London, on Monday 17 February at the Italian Institute of Culture (11 am).
In Berlin the presentation by the President of La Biennale, Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, after he greetings from the Italian Ambassador to Germany Fabrizio Bucci, was followed by a preview of the 69th International Festival of Contemporary Music (11 > 25 October) held by the new Artistic Director, Caterina Barbieri.
In London the presentation by the President of La Biennale, Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, after he greetings from the Director of the Italian Institute of Culture Francesco Bongarrà, will be followed by a preview of the 19th International Festival of Contemporary Dance (17 July > 2 August) held by the Artistic Director, Wayne McGregor. There will also be a presentation of the publication ICONOCLASTS – Women Rule Breakers at Biennale Danza, a catalogue of the exhibition by the same name shown at Ca’ Giustinian, which brings together the pioneers who shared their radical art of dance in Venice.
Activities in 2025
In 2025 La Biennale di Venezia is organising the 19th International Architecture Exhibition directed by Carlo Ratti (10 May > 23 November), the 53rd International Theatre Festival directed by Willem Dafoe (31 May > 15 June), the 19th International Festival of Contemporary Dance directed by Wayne McGregor (17 July > 2 August), the 82nd Venice International Film Festival directed by Alberto Barbera (27 August > 6 September), and the 69th International Festival of Contemporary Music directed by Caterina Barbieri (11 > 25 October).
The Special Project by the Historical Archive of La Biennale concerns the revival of the magazine La Biennale di Venezia, the historical magazine that was published between 1950 and 1971. The new Magazine, launched in October 2024, is issued quarterly and is edited and produced by La Biennale. It is available for sale in La Biennale’s online store labiennale.org/en/buy-online and in major bookstores.
Other Special Projects organized by the Biennale Archive in 2025 include:
The project Expositio Sancti Evangelii secundum Iohannem (Comment of John’s Gospel) by Johannes Eckhart (1260-1328 ca.), the Dominican theologian and mystic known as Meister Eckhart will take place starting Wednesday 5 March through Sunday 9 March 2025, with repeat performances from Tuesday 11 March through Saturday 15 March (9:30 pm). The Project brings the Comment on John’s Gospel to the Portego delle colonne in the Scuola Grande di San Marco.
The Special Project titled The Wind Makes the Sky. La Biennale di Venezia on the traces of Marco Polo, which follows the travels of Marco Polo on the occasion of the celebrations for the 700th anniversary of his death (1324 – 2024) continues. After the first stage in Hangzhou, with the exhibition titled The Perfect Path, and the second stage in Venice, with the exhibition Gulnur Mukazhanova. Memory of Hope, the third stage will take place in the Fall of 2025 in Istanbul.
We would also like to underscore the importance, for the year 2025 as well, for all the artistic Departments of La Biennale, of the workshop activities, which are given systematism and continuity through the project titled Biennale College, and the Educational activities.
