Press release
The new Board of Directors of La Biennale di Venezia was instated today, chaired by Pietrangelo Buttafuoco with board members Luigi Brugnaro (Vice-president, Mayor of Venice and President of the Metropolitan City), Luca Zaia (President of the Regione Veneto), and Tamara Gregoretti (designated by the Minister of Culture). The Board will remain in office for the four-year term 2024 – 2028.
After greeting the members of the Board itself – with the participation of Prof. Amerigo Restucci standing in as a proxy for the President of the Regione Veneto – and the Board of Auditors – with members Pasqualino Castaldi (president), Ines Gandini, Angelo Napolitano –, the President Pietrangelo Buttafuoco stated: “I would like to thank the Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano for his confidence in appointing me to this prestigious office, and I pledge to bring further momentum to this institution, a point of reference for the contemporary arts in the world and witness to the great cultural vitality that honours Italy. Special attention will be focused on developing the project for the International Centre for Research on Contemporary Arts. I would like to acknowledge and wholeheartedly thank President Roberto Cicutto for his collaboration in the transition process and congratulate him for the results achieved during his tenure in office. I would also like to acknowledge and thank Paolo Baratta, long the President of this Foundation. I thank the Parliamentary Commissions and their Presidents, Roberto Marti for the Senate, Federico Mollicone for the Chamber of Deputies. I wish the best in their endeavours to the directors Lucia Ronchetti, Alberto Barbera, Wayne McGregor, Adriano Pedrosa, Carlo Ratti, Stefano Ricci and Gianni Forte. And last but not least, I would like to acknowledge the city that has hosted La Biennale from the very beginning, Venice, which can count on a universal vocation for culture and on an extraordinary public”.
During the meeting, the Board appointed the Director General for the four-year term 2024 – 2028, confirming Andrea Del Mercato in the position.
