The nominations for the Oscars 2024 were announced today, and from the list of nominations seven films were presented at the Venice International Film Festival of La Biennale di Venezia, receiving 24 nominations overall: the Golden Lion film Poor Things by Yorgos Lanthimos, the Silver Lion for Best Direction Io capitano by Matteo Garrone, Maestro by Bradley Cooper, El conde by Pablo Larraín, La Sociedad de la nieve by J. A. Bayona, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar by Wes Anderson and Bobi Wine: the People’s President by Moses Bwayo and Christopher Sharp.
Eleven nominations were received by the film that won the Golden Lion at the 80th Venice Film Festival 2023, Poor Things by Yorgos Lanthimos: Best Picture, Best Directing, Best Writing Adapted Screenplay (Tony McNamara), Best Actress in a Leading Role (Emma Stone), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Mark Ruffalo), Best Music Original Score (Jerskin Fendrix), Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
The Italian film Io capitano by Matteo Garrone, Silver Lion for Best Directing at the 80th Venice Film Festival and Marcello Mastroianni Award to Seydou Sarr, won the nomination for Best International Feature Film.
Maestro by Bradley Cooper, in Competition at the 80th Venice Film Festival, won seven nominations: Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Bradley Cooper), Best Actress in a Leading Role (Carey Mulligan), Best Writing Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Sound.
La Sociedad de la nieve by J. A. Bayona, won two nominations, for Best International Feature Film and Best Makeup and Hairstyling. El conde by Pablo Larraín was nominated for Best Cinematography, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar by Wes Anderson was nominated for Best Short Film, Bobi Wine: the People’s President by Moses Bwayo and Christopher Sharp, presented at the 79th Venice Film Festival 2022, was nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film.
