The Sala Web theatre of the 81st Venice Film Festival

Four feature films of the Biennale College Cinema and nine short films (from Orizzonti and Out of Competition) to stream online.

La Biennale di Venezia announces the Sala Web theatre of the 81st Venice International Film Festival, which will stream online the four films from Biennale College Cinema and nine short films of which eight from the Orizzonti section and one Out of Competition (the shorts may be viewed free of charge).

These are world premiere films from the Official Selection of the 81st Venice International Film Festival (28 August – 7 September 2024) that will be streamed concurrently with the official premieres of the films on the Lido, for a limited number of viewers. Each film will be streamed at a specific time thus simulating a traditional screening, after which the title will be available for 5 more days through the end of the available online screenings.

The programme of shorts presents eight films from the Orizzonti section and one Out of Competition, including two by Italian directors, Allégorie citadine by Alice Rohrwacher and F II – Lo stupore del mondo by Alessandro Rak, All nine short films may be viewed free of charge around the world in screenings hosted on behalf of the Venice Film Festival on the website operated by Festival Scope at www.festivalscope.com. Each title (in the original language version with subtitles) will be available to be viewed in streaming starting at 6 pm (Italian time) on the day of the official premiere of the film on the Lido and through Monday 30 September 2024, for a limited number of viewers.

The four feature films of the Biennale College – Cinema – the international workshop for the production of micro-budget films which celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2022 – are the Italian film Il mio compleanno (My Birthday) by Christian Filippi (debut film), Honeymoon by Zhanna Ozirna (Ukraine, debut film), January 2 by Zsófia Szilágyi (Hungary, sophomore film) and The Fisherman by Zoey Martinson (United States, debut film) and may be viewed on the website operated by MYmovies at www.mymovies.it/ondemand/biennalecinema on the Biennale Cinema Channel streaming platform, which already includes a library of films from the Competition, Out of Competition and Orizzonti sections of the Venice Film Festivals between 2007 and 2023.

How to view the films

To view the feature films of the Biennale College Cinema within the territory of Italy, in the original language version with subtitles in Italian, viewers may purchase a one-month subscription to the Biennale Cinema Channel for € 7.90, a three-month subscription for € 19.90, or a one-year subscription for € 70.00, online at www.labiennale.org and www.mymovies.it/ondemand/biennalecinema/, or have an active subscription to MYmovies ONE. The Biennale Cinema Channel streaming platform already includes a library of the Competition, Out of Competition and Orizzonti sections of all the editions of the Venice Film Festival between 2007 and 2023.

Biennale College Cinema, organised by La Biennale di Venezia, enjoys the support of the Ministry of Culture – General Directorate Cinema. The main sponsor of the initiative is Vivendi. Biennale College Cinema relies on the academic collaboration of Gotham Film & Media Institute and the TorinoFilmLab.
