Venice in Rabat: the first edition kicks off on 2 May
11 Italian films from the Venice International Film Festival 2023 will screen in Rabat from May 2nd through December 13th.

Starting Thursday May 2nd (and through December 13th) the first edition of Venice in Rabat, which this year in Morocco presents for the first time a qualified selection of Italian films from the Venice International Film Festival of La Biennale di Venezia. Eleven Italian films, both new and restored “classics” from the recent 80th Venice Film Festival 2023, which will be screened at the Cinema Renaissance and at the Institut Supérieur des Métiers de l'Audiovisuel et du Cinéma (ISMAC) in Rabat from May 2nd to 8th and May 23rd to 24th, from June 20th to 21st, from October 10th to 18th , from December 5th to 6th and from December 12th to 13th 2024.
Participating in Venice in Rabat 2024, from the Venezia 80 Competition, will be the Silver Lion for best director and Marcello Mastroianni award winning Io capitano by Matteo Garrone, the opening film Comandante by Edoardo De Angelis, Adagio by Stefano Sollima and Lubo by Giorgio Diritti. From the Out of Competition section, the screenings will feature L’ordine del tempo (The Order of Time) by Liliana Cavani, Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in 2023 and the documentary Amor by Virginia Eleuteri Serpieri. From the Orizzonti section, the screenings will feature the Special Orizzonti Jury Prize winning Una sterminata domenica (An Endless Sunday) by Alain Parroni and the animation film Invelle by Simone Massi, while for the Orizzonti Extra section, the Armani Beauty Audience Award winning Felicità by Micaela Ramazzotti. From the Biennale College Cinema selection, the screenings will feature L'anno dell'Uovo (The Year of the Egg) by Claudio Casale. Last but not least, for Venice Classics, La provinciale (The Wayward Wife, 1953) by Mario Soldati e the short film Portrait of Gina (1958) by Orson Welles.
The project to promote and spread Italian cinema in the world, was launched in 2005 by La Biennale di Venezia in Brazil, with subsequent series organized in Russia starting in 2006, in China starting in 2009, in Korea starting in 2012, in Croatia, Lebanon, Singapore and in the UK starting in 2014 and from 2024 in Indonesia, where the first edition of Venice in Jakarta recently ended.
The 81st Venice Film Festival will be held from August 28th to September 7th 2024 directed by Alberto Barbera.
