Beautiful Things awarded in Copenhagen
An important international acknowledgment has been won by the Italian film BEAUTIFUL THINGS, directed by Giorgio Ferrero, developed and produced as a project of the 5th 2016-17 BIENNALE COLLEGE – CINEMA.
At the recent CPH:DOX in Copenhagen, one of the most important international festivals for documentary films, BEAUTIFUL THINGS won first prize in the NEXT:WAVE section dedicated to emerging young directors.
BIENNALE COLLEGE – CINEMA is the initiative launched in 2012 by La Biennale di Venezia to promote new talents in cinema, offering them the opportunity to work side by side with the masters, to make feature-length films on a budget of € 150,000, to be developed and produced within a year for presentation at the Venice International Film Festival.
BIENNALE COLLEGE is a complex and innovative experience that engages all the Departments of La Biennale di Venezia chaired by Paolo Baratta.
BEAUTIFUL THINGS, the debut film by director, composer and photographer Giorgio Ferrero, produced by Federico Biasin, was presented to great acclaim at its world premiere screening at the 74th Venice International Film Festival 2017 directed by Alberto Barbera, where it won the ARCA CinemaGiovani award for best Italian film. BEAUTIFUL THINGS is a visionary documentary about the objects and sounds of the contemporary world. The objects we believe we need every day begin and end their journey inside ghostly industrial and scientific places. The film describes the liturgy concealed at four remote locations, where groups of men work in total isolation with no interference from the outside world.
The call for Biennale College Cinema - Italia
BIENNALE COLLEGE – CINEMA continues and offers the possibility, through April 16th 2018 to participate in the call for the BIENNALE COLLEGE CINEMA – ITALIA, dedicated to teams composed exclusively of one director and one producer of Italian nationality.
At the close of the registration phase, the selection process will choose eight Italian projects for micro-budget films that will be invited to participate in a development workshop, to be held in English, from July 9 to 15, 2018, in Venice.
At the end of the workshop, and following the evaluation of the updated materials produced by the teams and submitted to the Biennale College Cinema by mid-August, there will be a further selection of 3 projects. They will be invited to take part, along with the teams of the nine projects selected through the International Call to be launched soon in May, in a ten-day workshop that will be held in Venice during the month of October.
The announcement of the projects selected for the workshop in October will be made during the 75th Venice International Film Festival 2018 directed by Alberto Barbera. From that moment, the two different paths in the seventh edition of the College Cinema programme, and specifically BCC-Italia and BCC-International, come together to follow the same track for the selection and presentation of three feature-length micro-budget films for the 76th Venice International Film Festival 2019.
