Mi obra maestra
Synopsis
Arturo is a charming, sophisticated, and rather unscrupulous gallerist. He has his own art gallery in downtown Buenos Aires, a city that fascinates him. Renzo is a morose painter, slightly wild, and in clear decadence. He hates social contact and is almost living in poverty. Even though the gallerist and the painter are bound by an old friendship, they do not agree in almost anything. Their universes and ideas are opposite, which generates great tensions and fights between them. However, they are great friends despite these differences. And this comedy is about that friendship.
Director’s Statement
The film tells the story of a risky fraud in the art world, and in parallel tells the story of the friendship between the characters played by Guillermo Francella and Luis Brandoni. The tone of this film wonderfully fits both of these great actors. The film has tension, drama, emotion, and it also has a lot of humour. Andrea Frigerio also acts in the film, we wanted her after her outstanding role in El ciudadano ilustre, as well as Raúl Arévalo, the great Spanish actor and director. And the screenplay by Andrés Duprat (screenwriter of El ciudadano ilustre and El hombre de al lado) is extraordinary, a perfect mechanism. The film reflects on the contradictions of artistic creation, and the limits of friendship. It was filmed during eight weeks in Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and in the impressive natural scenery of Jujuy.
