Jeppe Hein’s Modified Social Benches encourage exploration and experimentation through a variety of activities, from play to rest. They are the counterreaction to any architectural tool that dictates the movement of bodies in space. For the Giardini, the artist has produced a set of four benches which seem to be growing out of the cyan lagoons, looping in the air like toy train tracks. Located on the lawn between the Brazilian, Polish and Romanian pavilions, the Modified Social Benches for Venice (2019) create a space for social interaction and invite deceleration.
