Teresa Margolles trains a feminist lens onto the brutalities of narcoviolence that pervade her home country of Mexico. Having studied forensic medicine and co-founded the death-metal inspired artist’s collective SEMEFO, Margolles has throughout her practice thematised governmental negligence, the social and economic cost of the criminalisation of drugs, and the specific textures, smells and physical remains – that is to say, the materiality – of death.
