Aerocene Foundation

Museo Aero Solar, initiated in 2007, is an open, growing collection of community-built floating museums from around the world. Plastic bags are reused, cut, pasted, and joined to create canvases for drawing and writing personal stories. They invite visitors to reuse and recycle, turning a notorious material of the Anthropocene, into a mind-expanding material for an Aerocene era. To build a Museo Aero Solar people can use the instructions available on the project’s website (aerocene. org) and a Do-It-Together (DIT) ethos fostered by the Aerocene community. To date, hundreds of thousands of plastic bags that would otherwise fill landfills or the ocean have been rescued from over fifty communities across more than thirty countries in an act that embodies an ethos of care and responsibility. The project invites visitors to repurpose their plastic bags and help build this more inclusive, regenerative world that imagines a fossil fuel-free future.
