Description

Making its European premiere at the Biennale Danza is Behind the South: Dances for Manuel by the Afro-Colombian company Sankofa Danzafro. An homage to Colombian writer Manuel Zapata Olivella and his most famous work, Changó, el gran putas, the show adopts the five-act structure of the novel and recounts, in a succession of miraculous births, rebellions, and omens, the attempt to keep alive the connection with one's own land during the painful African diaspora.

Western dance and Afro-Colombian tradition blend in the choreographies of Rafael Palacios, a former student of Germaine Acogny. A powerful spectacle for a company that has toured the world and has much to tell. In Italy for the first time, Sankofa Danzafro, as their motto says, "Dances to be listened to and not to be seen!"
