The vocal music of Kaija Saariaho, the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement of this Festival, is based on the texts of important authors from various eras who address universal themes such as the solitude of the journey, distance, death. The texts are analysed by the composer as sound material and as instructions and suggestions for listening.
Aleksi Barrière works at the intersection of theatre and music. His twofold training in theatre and philosophy took him from the Université de Panthéon-Sorbonne in Paris to the Theatre Faculty of Prague, and the Université de Nanterre. This training was also enriched by his experiences as an assistant to directors Sarah Méadeb and Peter Sellars, as a dramaturge with the company T&M-Paris, and as a dramaturge and scenographer for the company Image Auditive. With the company La Chambre aux échos, Barrière has been developing for over ten years a theatre whose forms are created through the encounter between artists, the friction of materials, and the moving interfaces between media.
