TIM HECKER - LIVE
Overall my approach has shifted over time from the use of abstracted electronic instrumentation, towards more clearly articulated but uncannily transformed traditional instrumentation. Electronic music is now everywhere, also it has ceased to be anything other than simply just music. Its ubiquity makes the artistic presuppositions of making electronic music perhaps more dubious hopefully for the better. Over the years I’ve focussed on exploring areas such as the pipe organ, ambient and its meaning or meaninglessness, noise, post-minimalist music, choral, Japanese Gagaku amongst others. Every album has been a kind of mini-journey in which I still maintain the importance of the long-form expression, even to this day in our compressed attention challenged listening contexts. For this concert I’m planning to play music that fuses some of these past approaches, working primarily with pulsed-base music and drones from live modular synthesis.

The concert also features a live performance by Sam Barker, an Irish composer who has expanded the boundaries of rhythmic research with a techno influence, and the articulate and virtuoso DJ set by the young German of Mozambican origin Cecilia Tosh.
