Utilizing her abilities to navigate the nightmare world, Mara sets out on a mission to rescue six-year-old Ned from his nightmare-induced coma, where he is held captive by aliens. She pleads with Sgt. Libo, a homeless Vietnam War Vet who she discovered can also traverse nightmares, to join forces and combat the Nightmare Creator together. Meanwhile, in the real world, Mayor Doesgood exploits this mysterious coma phenomenon to raise funds for his campaign, while also aiming to appease the Nightmare Creator to advance a sinister agenda. As Mara battles through a harrowing labyrinth of nightmares to save Ned, her powers and emotion are pushed to the limit.
NightMara is a groundbreaking virtual reality animation that blends Gianpaolo Gonzalez’s love of graphic novels, films, and theme park rides into a psychedelic experience. The concept emerged from a series of haunting nightmares he had over three consecutive nights that finally came to an end when he listened to a little voice in the dream that revealed a crucial rule. This idea inspired him to create the character, Mara. Using a pop surrealistic style, this project has fun exploiting Mara’s chaotic life as a young teen with the power to navigate the nightmare world, while also having to deal with the eccentric characters in Brighton City who all suffer from debilitating nightmares.
