synopsis
When her mother forbids her from biting her nails, Sarah must now abide by rules she does not fully understand. By regaining control over her movements, she slowly redefines her attitude towards others.
director's statement
À fleur de peau explores a teen’s unusual rite of passage, when a habit as trivial as biting her nails becomes her mother’s primary concern. And so, intrusive punishments disrupt her movements and have her conform to an inhibiting image, whilst awakening her to the gaze she is subjected to—ultimately, inciting her to react.
