Lina Ghotmeh — Architecture

Mettendo in mostra la torre Stone Garden terminata di recente a Beirut, questa installazione illustra la capacità dell’architettura di agire come strumento di guarigione e di giocare un ruolo attivo nel costruire della resilienza nei momenti di crisi. Eretto vicino al porto industriale della città, a poco più di un chilometro e mezzo dall’epicentro dell’esplosione che ha devastato metà della capitale libanese nell’agosto del 2020, il progetto affonda le sue radici nel contesto che lo circonda: un paesaggio urbano dilaniato dalla guerra, che resiste alle continue avversità. L’installazione comprende un modello in scala dell’edificio contenente fotografie e video, e racconta la storia di Beirut e quella della realizzazione del progetto. L’architettura dell’edificio mette in luce modi alternativi di vita e affronta al tempo stesso questioni come la memoria, la natura, l’abitare, la limitazione degli spazi e la densità urbana. Ricordando le rovine di Beirut invase dalla natura, l’edificio esprime un richiamo persistente e ottimistico alla vita, con grandi aperture che ospitano giardini lussureggianti e accolgono l’ambiente naturale nel cuore delle abitazioni e della città.

Building resilience at times of crisis - Manifesting a persistent and optimistic emergence of life. Large openings housing dwellers with lush gardens, inviting nature at the heart of the dwellings and the city.
